About the Artist

Joanne started her formal art training taking numerous art courses at MUN Extension Arts in the 1980’s and obtained a Fine Arts degree at Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario in 1989.  She works mainly as a painter and also has an interest in various types of printmaking, paper-making and creating handmade journals.

Since retiring from a full-time position at the QEII Library at Memorial University, Joanne can usually be found roaming beaches and headlands or paddling stretches of coastline in her kayak, studying and sketching beach rocks, colourful cliffs and ancient outcrops, listening to their stories. She credits her childhood for her interest in rocks, growing up roaming the beaches and hills of her hometown of Crockers Cove, Carbonear.

Her artwork can be found in the City of St. John’s and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador art collections as well as numerous private collections.

Her artwork can also be seen at The Baccalieu Gallery, Heart’s Content, NL.
